Roller blinds have always been known as a rather simple window accessory they have always been a rather affordable alternative to the usual curtains. They are usually made up of a spring loaded tube surrounded by a thickened paper. One can pull the blinds down to block the light and make it dark or pull it again to let the light filter in. The thickness of the roller blinds allows for darker or lesser darkening outcomes. But that was then, now the roller blinds are not so simple.

Though the basic features and technology remain same as before but the monochromatic colors and the flimsy paper is out the window and it its place you have materials as diverse as linen, cotton, polyester and flax. Roller blinds are easily custom made nowadays and are available in various styles. The choices today can range from solar reflective and suede to metallic or any other color of the rainbow.

The market today offers roller blinds that are operated by an electric motor rather than a hand pulled cord. In most cases these electric motor operated roller blinds come with a remote. Which makes the entire exercise of shading or not shading the space as easy as pushing a button.
