Rapid prototyping is an automatic construction of objects using additive manufacturing technology. This method was used to produce product models and prototype parts. Due to advanced technology today rapid prototyping is used to manufacture quality parts. This method is also used to produce complex shapes mainly for fine art product for exhibition. The virtual design are been done with the help of CAD or animation software. Layered manufacturing and computer automated manufacturing is involved in rapid prototyping.

This method can be used for various purpose like vehicle visualization, for creating male model for tooling and also for testing airfoil shape when it is been inserted in a wind tunnel. Some time the material used in this method is not strong or accurate. The main purpose of using this method is to increase effective communication. This process also helps to decrease the production time of a product. It minimizes cost related problems and certain type engineering problems. The features will increase the life time of a product and help to eliminate the unnecessary features from the design itself. Correction is been done at the earlier stage pf product design. This method helps to increase product complexity.
